Counting how many steps daily may make you feel like you are making progress however it won’t be significant if your body has adapted to the the movement.  Walking is something we do everyday and usually lots of it, therefore the body eventually learns how to recover these muscle fibers quickly. Changing your activity routine with different movements may help alleviate adaptation.
